Maklumat Unit Bahasa Inggeris
This unit is designed to enhance students’ communicative competence in English, aligned with the CEFR framework. It focuses on developing the four key language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—through a variety of authentic and meaningful tasks. Students will engage in activities that reflect real-life contexts, enabling them to apply English appropriately in academic and social situations. Emphasis will also be placed on building vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, and fluency, in line with CEFR level descriptors.
In accordance with the PSELF principles, this unit also aims to foster learner autonomy, critical thinking, and collaborative learning. Through task-based learning, group discussions, and reflective practices, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning while working constructively with peers. The unit supports the holistic development of learners by integrating language use with values, 21st-century skills, and digital literacy—ensuring students are well-prepared for further studies and real-world communication challenges.
By the end of the session, students will be able to:
- Communicate effectively in spoken and written English in both academic and everyday contexts (CEFR-aligned).
- Demonstrate improved accuracy and fluency in using a range of vocabulary and grammatical structures appropriate to CEFR B2 levels.
- Apply active listening and reading strategies to comprehend main ideas, specific details, and inferred meaning in various texts.
- Produce clear and coherent written texts (e.g., essays, reports, reflections) using appropriate language conventions and organisational patterns.
- Participate confidently in discussions, presentations, and collaborative tasks using effective communication strategies.
- Use digital tools and resources to support language learning, collaboration, and information gathering (aligned with 21st-century skills).
- Demonstrate positive values such as respect, cooperation, and responsibility during group activities and peer interactions.
1. Exchanging personal information
- Introduce oneself and others, give details about background, education, interests, and experiences.
2. Expressing opinions and preferences
- Share personal viewpoints, agree or disagree respectfully, and justify choices using appropriate language.
3. Asking for and giving information
- Formulate questions and respond clearly in both formal and informal contexts.
4. Describing experiences, events, and processes
- Talk or write about past events, current situations, and planned actions using appropriate tenses and vocabulary.
5. Making suggestions and giving advice
- Offer recommendations or guidance in social and academic contexts using polite, constructive expressions.
6. Giving presentations
- Organise and present information clearly and confidently to an audience using appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication strategies.
7. Summarising and paraphrasing
- Identify main ideas and rephrase information from texts or spoken input in one’s own words.
8. Engaging in collaborative tasks
- Work in groups to solve problems, complete projects, or produce shared outputs, while demonstrating teamwork and respect.
